Granbury ISD has scheduled a parent meeting to discuss enrollment opportunities at the STEAM Academy at Mambrino for the 2020-21 school year.
In 2018, Mambrino School became a school-wide STEAM Academy for grades PK-5 and accepted student transfers from other GISD campuses as well as from outside the district.
The academy focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, the arts, and Mathematics. There is daily implementation of the inquiry design process, utilization of specialized curricula (including Project Lead The Way – which is currently used in Granbury High School engineering courses as well as introductory classes at Acton Middle School and Granbury Middle School), and extensive teacher training, according to principal Stacie Brown.
In addition to the PLTW curriculum, the academy utilizes EcoRise (to offer interactive opportunities to apply knowledge and skills to relevant, real-world problems) and Education Closet (for arts integration).
Student transfer applications must meet current district criteria regarding attendance and discipline. For students who will be in grades 1-5 next year, the application deadline will be Friday, March 6. For incoming kindergarteners, Roundup will be held at all GISD elementary schools on Wednesday, April 1 from 8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M., and those applications will be due on Friday, April 3.
Mambrino staff and others will present information on the academy at six informational meetings.
Additional information about the academy is available on the district website at www.granburyisd.org/steam.
