The annual ULTRA Club Big Band Scholarship Dance will be held on the campus of Tarleton State University. The theme this year is “Fly Me to the Moon,” and will be held in the Barry B. Thompson Student Center Ballrooms. Volunteer musicians and Tarleton students will play traditional jazz and swing music, including arrangements from big band greats such as Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington.
The performance will be the last one for guests to watch Assistant Professor Greg Ball conduct the ULTRA Club Big Band. Ball plans to retire from Tarleton in May, after 27 years as director of the university’s jazz bands.
Tickets go on sale Jan. 23, in Room 105E of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center, and will be available at the door, beginning at 7:30 p.m. the night of the dance. Proceeds support scholarships for Tarleton’s fine arts students. To learn more about the ULTRA Club, visit www.tarleton.edu/ultra.
