Rocks Alive!
A free, outdoor, come-and-go public event for all ages at Acton Nature Center, Sept. 30, 10 am-2 pm.
What’s in a rock that sustains life? What about soil – why do we need it? How about water, air, and even the sun? Discover why life would not exist without these physical foundations.
Interact with exhibitors to get the inside scoop on how rocks, soil, water (surface and underground), and climate/weather shape and support our Texas landscapes and ecosystems. Get a peek at what’s up with our solar system and sun with two upcoming solar eclipses.
First up is October's annular eclipse, and then the April 2024 total eclipse, occurring over Texas! See what meteorites look like and what they can tell us about our Earth.
Fun and educational activities for kids will include opportunities to find a fossil, make and eat a rock, create pictures with pebbles, and build a mini ecosystem. And there will be face painting for all!
Rocks Alive! is presented by the Rio Brazos Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist program and Acton Nature Center.
