STEPHENVILLE, Texas—In preparation for their upcoming performance in New York City’s Carnegie Hall, Tarleton State University Choirs presents a public concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 29, in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Theater.
The concert features several Tarleton choir ensembles, under the direction of Dr. Troy Robertson, and includes works by Mozart, Monteverdi and Se Enkhbayar, among others.
“‘Naiman Sharag’ is a Mongolian piece that features biphonation, singing two pitches at once, and ‘El Vito’ is a Spanish folksong based on the flamenco,” said Robertson. Joining the student vocalists are Tarleton vocal performance faculty Dr. Heather Hawk and Dr. Iwao Asakura.
In addition to Tarleton’s Chamber Choir, the Texan Gentlemen and Select Women’s Ensemble will perform.
“Our performance on Feb. 29 will be a test run for the students,” Robertson explained. “They will have a home field to try out memorization and staging, and deal with the pressure that comes with being in front of an audience. They can’t wait to see how it goes, and neither can I. We’ve been working very hard.”
