Granbury High School MCJROTC Robotics Team makes finals at their first Robotics Competition

All three Granbury MCJROTC High School robotics teams placed in the top teams and made finals at Battle on the Brazos, 12 Dec 2020 held at Granbury High School. 
“It is an amazing accomplishment for a team that is only 12 days old”, said Senior Marine Instructor, LtCol Casey. 

The team scores were very close, and all three teams made semi-finals with the team of Zac Layland, Erick Hernandez and Dalton Weddle leading the pirates with a 5th place finish out of over 40 teams in addition to receiving the community award for donating the most toys to Toys for Tots. 

Additionally, the team of Kaylynn Slaughter, Sarah Folsom and Trinity Streiff placed 8th and were selected for the Energy Award.  This award was presented to a team that displayed a high level of enthusiasm and passion at the event with the key criteria: • Team maintains a high level of excitement and energy throughout the event • Team’s passion for robotics enriches the event experience for others • Students demonstrate teamwork and effective communication skills.

The team of Ricky Layland, Rhyan Obina and John Elkins rounded out the top teams placing 12th and were selected in an alliance to compete in finals. 

Casey went on to say said, "1stSgt Rositas I are very proud of the teams and their hard work and dedication the past 12 days preparing for this event.  We exceeded our goals!  It was fun to work with this great group of cadets and it made this an exciting first competition." 

Also, LtCol Casey wants to thank Mrs. Jumper, GHS CTE Robotics Teacher and Coach, for her level of dedication in supporting the JROTC cadets in making this a success. 

The GHS JROTC Robotics Team received equipment donated to the team from VEX Robotics to compete in their first competition this past weekend.  VEX Robotics creates tools for educators and mentors to utilize in and out of classrooms to inspire the world’s next generation of innovators, thinkers, and future leaders. Through VEX Robotics, students are able to develop valuable lifelong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.

GHS MCJROTC Robotics team's next competition will be January 23rd in the Legacy Robotics Competition.
