Tarleton State University’s W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Saturday, May 5, of course, with free admission and cookies. Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration on May 5 commemorating the Mexican Army’s unlikely defeat over the French Empire at the 1862 Battle of Puebla. In the U.S., the holiday has become a celebration of Mexican-American culture. The W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas, a Tarleton museum and research facility in the historic ghost town of Thurber, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. The center is located at Exit 367 on Interstate 20 between Fort Worth and Abilene.
